My 2021 New Year’s Resolutions
Small but consistent goals
Is this time of the year where I start thinking about what my new year’s resolutions are going to be for 2021. I really like to come up with this list of goals that keep me focused during the year; I usually level up the bar too high making it hard for me to achieve my own goals.
And it is not that I’m not that ambitious, it is that the smaller and the granular the goals are, the easier are they to achieve and have that feeling of getting shit done.
So here is my top list of resolutions for facing this 2021 and put all the energy into achieving them:
- Get a new job: I was working on a startup and decided to leave in November of 2020, I have a strong background in computer programming and Information Security (Application Security is one of my strongest skills) but also Cybersecurity and Penetration testing. So my goal is to get a new job that allows me to work in these areas.
2. Do 1 hour of exercise: Either walking, running, or swimming.
3. Read 1 book per month: That will be 12 books a year, a not bad number.
4. 15 Daily meditation minutes: Continue to use the two applications: Zen and 1 Giant Mind.
5. Save more money: As I’m a big fan of The Richest Man in Babylon’s book, It's time for putting some of that advice into practice.
6. Professional Certifications: This is an item that I’ve been procrastinating on for the last couple of years since I’ve been very “busy”. However, this is the year to get them done:
- Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional CSSLP
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional
- Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)
- Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS)
7. Write more content on Medium
8. Attend more Pluralsight courses
9. Subscribe to the Linux Foundation training
10. Renew yearly Subscriptions (OWASP, Medium)
11. Spend more time with family
12. Learn GO Programming Language
13. Come up with Startup ideas about Cybersecurity
14. Better time management
15. Close some cycles, let go of some feelings, get better.
One of the many things I have learned during 2020 was to understand how important is to be consistent to achieve goals. My objective is to have a sustained discipline to achieve all these goals to become a better person and a better professional.
